Deadbolt/nightlatch/springbolt lock not locking when my door is shut. The handle is extremely loose. Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated! : Locksmith

I should add that I don’t know which type of lock it is, a deadbolt/springbolt/or nightlatch or what the difference is between those. The lock can be opened from the inside by pulling down on the handle. It locks when the door is shut. To unlock from outside you have to insert the key (tooth-side facing up) and then turn to the right about 20-45° the lock then pops open. It’s difficult to see in the picture but this is a Yale lock

My friend is locked inside her flat, landlord isn’t answering calls. Any ideas of what to do would be really appreciated! Apparently it’s just completely stuck, she can’t move the handle bit or the latch thing (technical terms I’m sure!) : Locksmith

Common fault with these. If the snib (small button-like thing) won’t move, there’s nothing she can do except call a locksmith. They will drill from the outside, release and replace. If it’s ground floor, they should try to climb through a window and do it from inside as it will save the cylinder.

You friend should take a video that shows it’s jammed and screenshot her phone’s call log to prove that she attempted to contact the landlord.

Expect to pay a total of £150-£200 or so to have this done tonight. It should all be recoverable from the landlord but if you have trouble with that, post on r/legaladviceuk

Make sure you get a full price over the phone from the locksmith and follow the advice in the sidebar to see how to find a good one. Easy to quote this from photos so don’t put up with any nonsense from people that tell you they have to wait until they are on site.

(I’ve assumed UK, judging by the your lock)

Questions regarding my apartment deadbolt keyway. Any help is appreciated. : Locksmith

level 1

Buy a new Kwikset deadbolt from your local locksmith, bring your existing key so they can re-pin the new one to your existing key if you want.

Can anyone identify this key duplicator? ILCO 190km? When was it made? Any tips on restoring it. Motor still runs but vibrates like crazy. Also needs a new belt. Any help would be appreciated. : Locksmith

New motor is going to be a few hundred bucks. You’ll have to pull it totally to pieces and get the rust off with possibly some grinding/sanding which will throw off the balance of the spindles and wheels. It would be pointless to do it all and not re-plate it so that’s more time and money. As a fix it project I’d be all into it l, but for a reliable useable accurate key machine, likely not.
