Key Duplicator Drill Bit : Locksmith

Hi All,

I’ve recently ressurected a laser key duplicator which we haven’t used in years.

The supplier we used to use for consumables is no longer trading and I’m not sure what I should be searching for to find a replacement drill bit.

The bit reads “2.5 co8 STg 13.60”

I have also attached a picture for reference: https://ibb.co/Z8RQdgK

What should I be looking for and where might I find it? The machine is a Curtis Industries LC3.

Thanks!

What happens when someone tries drilling out a lock with anti drill features? : Locksmith

I’m going to secure a storage locker with an Abus 37/60 which features an anti drill disc. Realistically if someone were to attempt to drill it out, would the lock be able to be used after? I’m guessing you’ll end up with lots of broken bits, but would it now be possible to open it legitimately?

What other ways will people try accessing a storage locker? I have a cylinder lock provided by Public Storage I presume is relatively easy to drill out, but would the combination of the Abus and the cylinder lock be sufficient to deter people? Or will that more likely throw a red flag that something good might be stored in there? At that point it seems easier to break down the door (swinging door made of aluminum, not the roll up) or the walls to get into the locker.

Locksmith came to a fellows house drunk last night couldn’t pick it decided to drill the key way because he couldn’t drill the bottom so I put one straight through on the horizon. : Locksmith

Didn’t help that he wanted to pay Friday when he initially called me and I said no, the other locksmith agreed to being paid Friday, he borrowed the money and called and explained he didn’t know what he was doing because he never had a locksmith before so I explained that he couldn’t pick it so he drilled it and wrongly, then he was amazed that I did it in a few minutes and passed the mess he made. Upside I only charged him £60 and I said I will just call it a barrel change because I felt bad that he got swindled by a drunk locksmith. It was also a night call out.

Another farmhouse job. I did one of these today. The customer wanted to keep the integrity of ‘this old house’ and bought this kit. All in all it wasn’t a direct drop in replace ment so I had to fill some holes and drill some new. The lock is solid but the screws could have been thicker and longer.

Best general use drill bits. : Locksmith

Wikipedia has a great article on drill bits I’m using Cdn Tire titanium coated hss, and cobalt bits for stainless steel and other hard metals (go slow and lube the bit). Also started using the titanium coated bits from Princess Auto with hex shank, for use in impact driver (shorter body for tight spaces). Most of the bits are on sale. Then there’s the specialized bits for going through 14″ of concrete, drilling holes for ice fishing…. and I’ve wandered off of general purpose
