Is there any company that sells mortise hardware that takes a normal key? Want to keep this door original but also want to key it with the rest of the buildings master key system. : Locksmith

I am a locksmith, i cant find any supplier that carries a modern mortise lock that has a similar look and doesnt still take a skeleton key, just looking for a brand or supplier recommendation. I can also just retrofit a knob and deadbolt to it but i want to keep the original look.

Vintage Schlage Hardware : Locksmith

Just wanted to know if anyone had any idea what was model number or any info about it. My uncle who passed away worked for Schlage in South San Francisco/Brisbane for like 40 years. He left this and other stuff to me since I’ve been locksmithing for about 6 years now. It’s heavy as heck and key blanks seem really cool. I’m from SoCal but moved up here last year so I’m still getting used to the history is it all here.

Possible Scam? Dude wants to order about $2,500 in hardware. : Locksmith

Possible scam? Had an unusual call today. A person is requesting specific, expensive hardware, 3 of each of 5 different Schlage electronic hardware. Doesn’t add up, asked for an address which is in a nearby town and Google maps show it’s a church. When I asked about installation, he said his son would help him. I told him he should order from the internet and not through us unless we install it. He then said we would install it. He then asked if we take credit card and said he would pay for order with the credit card. I’m thinking scam, my spidey sense is is twitching. BTW, the email address is for a person from Ghana, the phone exchange is from Oregon (we are in GA). I’m not biting, anyone have any experience with something like this?

Opinions on Panic Hardware

My shop uses Von Duprin 99 series most of the time. We often get objections about the cost. When you consider the trim and the mark-ups my employer charges, it ranges from 3k to 4k.

Has anyone used the 22 series? It would be logical that it is perhaps less durable, or somehow less desirable than the 99… But objectively, is the 99 better enough to justify the price?

Hardware suggestions for 2.25” thick door? : Locksmith

I have a customer with an older facility. Currently they have old Schlage heavy duty knobs (not actually sure what they are, I believe they predate the D series) anyway, the door is too thick for a new ND series lever set so I’m looking for suggestions on what hardware to spec out. The backup plan is to just install VD99’s, but i’d prefer to save the customer some money and stick with a cylindrical
