[Question] Possible to replace this Medeco cylinder easily? : Locksmith

Hello,

Sorry if this is against the rules, I don’t think it is?

I have a 1980s safe with a secondary inner compartment inside. It used to have a time delay lock, but it was cut and has not been working for a while. The secondary door has this Medeco lock. I do not have the key, but luckily the door was left open. Am I able to just replace the cylinder on this with one of the many Medeco cylinder and key sets on ebay? Or do I need to get the entire thing?

Can anyone recommend a good replace for this lock that wouldn’t require cutting into the door or frame? : Locksmith

Hello Locksmiths of Reddit. After my front door deadbolt broke yesterday, leaving me with no way to get in my house, I realized I should probably look at fixing the back door so I can actually use it as an entrance when needed. I’m looking for either a replacement option that’s similar so that I don’t have to cut into the door frame, or maybe getting a key made that would fit, if that’s possible. This is smaller than your average key. I appreciate any help or advice that could be provided.

Hi, can anyone advise me on which brand and style of lock this is in order to replace it. It’s not an emergency so I can’t call someone out due to covid restrictions. My pet gets into the kitchen when I’m cooking. All the doors have this lock but when I moved in i was told they never kept the keys! : Locksmith

It’s a Union Mortice lock. Google that and can find what you’re looking for. Better yet, just get a locksmith to make a key for the current lock. Most states field service locksmiths have been considered essential the whole way thru this. Mask and PPE is standard issue now days.

What kind of lock set do I need to replace this? : Locksmith

This is at my father in law’s house. I don’t know much about locks but he says that this is an “old type of lock” and it’s hard to replace. So, he’s just ignored it for years. He has other locks on the inside of the door to secure it but I want to fix it for him as a Christmas present. I could replace just the lock or I could replace the entire lock and door handle.

Edit: the key lock doesn’t work and as you can see, the inside dead bolt isn’t even there.

Can I Replace Yale Smartlock Cylinder with any other KW1 cylinder? : Locksmith

Hello Experts,

Currently, I have 2 traditional kwikset locks with KW1 cylinder. Both of them have same keys.

I purchased two Yale Assure Smart Locks recently (yet to be delivered). These come with KW1 cylinders. As per instructions provided by Yale on their YouTube channel, we can replace the cylinders on these smart locks.

My question is, can I just swap the cylinders on these smart locks with the cylinders from my existing locks? This will solve two things – 1) I can use my existing keys 2) I can also use on key for both doors.

The spring isn’t pulling back the latch far enough to allow the door to open. I thought it would be easy to replace just that but the privacy pin is square because of it being a thumb lever type thing in the rosette. Need some help identifying parts to replace it. Antique door co was baffled. : Locksmith

Looks like one of those old National locks. They were designed to be replaced, not repaired, but the company went out of business a very long time ago. The National Cabinet Lock division is still around as NCL, but that won’t help with this.

I would just install a new privacy lock. The new locks are larger and will cover up the holes of the old one. I haven’t done residential work in years, but I think various brands make privacy locks with glass knobs.
